Virtual Learning Environment
Real Knowledge And The Virtual Learning Environment
|
Online learning has caught on like wildfire, bringing many new facets to the longstanding world of education. Time and technology are in a constant course of change, adding new challenges all in the name of progress. While many tend to think of chalkboards and erasers when it comes to teaching, it is now the virtual learning environment that has become a mainstream tool for online instructors. With the help of ultra modern software systems, teachers can use navigation tools to monitor their student's progress, lay out lessons plan objectives and even chat with learners about their development. This virtual tool can be considered somewhat of a communications center that helps make up the distance between teachers and their students. As online courses run over a server and are accessed as webpages, so is the virtual learning environment. From time to time, teachers change the templates allowing students to access up to date information, assignments, tests or progress reports at any time of the day or night. The pages are easy to follow and require no extensive technological savvy, something that has allowed online learning its continued rise in popularity. Depending on the learning venue, features such as blogs or instant messaging will also be offered. These environments often devised with a standardized interface allowing for the easy transfer of course content from one environment to another. Whereas some have questioned the effectiveness of online learning over the years, the number of benefits gained from the virtual learning environment has all but silenced many opponents. The VLE, as it is called, greatly enhances online learning by offering assessments, exclusive access rights and a number of links to information such as reading materials, visual aids and even registration or payment options. Students who opt for online learning will not only find a basic interface but the same basic navigation tools found on any other type of website. Even older students who may have not much in the way of computer experience often find VLE's easy to navigate. The virtual learning environment is so popular it even has offshoots and similar programs called course and learning management systems. For the most part, these systems are often used as workforce training programs. Students who have just finished similar online programs have the advantage of easily moving through course management programs once hired. As many institutions have come to find, a VLE is one of the most cost effective methods for teaching students. No classroom space is required and handy templates require less time from instructors in the long run, especially compared to the conventional methods of lecture based instruction. It can combine many courses and campuses at once, making it highly convenient for the student on the go. |
