Getting Caught Up In The Wonders Of Web-Based Training
|
Web-based training, or WBT as it is sometimes called, is now one of the mainstream tools of online education. Were the number of benefits accompanying this type of training not so great it would hardly be so popular with online formats. The fact that it is far reaching, can be computer based requiring no instructor and quite user friendly are only just a few of the reasons it has caught on so well. The majority of people who opt for online learning are likely to experience this type of training at some point during their education. Plus, it is often used by many employers to train new hires, giving online graduates the benefit of previous experience using such a program. Web-based Training (WBT) is that which can be easily accessed over almost any browser. Similar programs such as computer based training often use materials such as CD ROMs. While Web-based Training (WBT) may at times require the presence of an instructor, this is not always the case. This means the training can be accessed at the learner's convenience. With online learning, students anywhere in the world will gain access to the same basic training program. It is not uncommon for some programs to offer a pre test and post test allowing one to monitor their progress. Once strengths and weaknesses are identified, more attention can be focused in the needed areas. Students can often repeat a difficult task until they are comfortable enough to move on to the next level. Another bonus for web-based training is the realistic simulation. This hands on experience allows students to easily transition into the actual task with ease when the time comes. Because the training often consists of interactive multimedia, students are likely to be more engaged in the training, especially with measured levels of required participation. It is well known that training that engages a user has a better rate of retention and results in a much higher skill level. Unlike costly printed training materials that can go out of date, a computer training program can be updated to provide students with the latest skills. While programs often advance in difficulty, a basic skills web-based training program can always be revisited as a refresher course. This often helps students shake up and refresh the learning process. Online learners often get the benefit of WBT programs that are available at any time. This ensures that the cost of requiring an instructor to be present is not surreptitiously passed down on to students. Very high on the list of plusses is the user friendly features of WBT. Their easy to use formats often allow even those with little computer savvy to navigate their way through the program with ease. |
